Escape to the uspoiled paradise of Little Cayman

Little Cayman Little Cayman is perhaps the closest thing to a private paradise one could ever hope to find. There are no crowds, no traffic jams and the temperature year round is between 75 and 85°F, (24ºC - 30ºC). Little Cayman is the smallest and least developed of the three Cayman Islands, and is located approximately 80 miles northeast of Grand Cayman. Little Cayman is a unique and almost unbelievable island that appeals to naturalists, fisherman, divers, snorkels, and those who appreciate the simple life. It's quiet 11-mile stretch of land is a nature lovers paradise. It is dotted with pristine lagoons, mangrove forests, orchid strewn swamps, and salt ponds. If you're lucky, you can spot wild iguanas, egrets, the endangered West Indian whistling duck and the largest nesting colony of red-footed boobies in the Caribbean.

With a population of less than 100, honeymooners will find total relaxation and privacy along the island's quiet, romantic shores. Adorned with colorful conch shells and seafans, Little Cayman's powder-soft beaches are so secluded, the only sounds you hear are the ripple of the waves.

Little Cayman is so flat that bicycling is effortless (as long as the wind is at your back). But for those who would rather spend the day meandering, you'll find a dozen sandy beaches for stopping along the main road. Favorites include Bus Stop, marked by an abandoned bus, and aptly named Picnic Area, with tables and a private beach.

Although Little Cayman's growth has increased since becoming wired for electricity, the Island's timeless beauty is well-preserved. Little Cayman's relaxing atmosphere and unspoiled natural splendor remain very much intact, while technological progress makes life here even more comfortable and convenient for those who live and visit. For now, paradise is safe on Little Cayman.

World Class Scuba Diving

Divers of all levels come to explore Little Cayman's spectacular underwater world, and snorkeling is just as riveting as the reefs are so close to the surface. The underwater visibility around it island is 100-150 feet all year. There are over 50 unique dive sites off Little Cayman, including the famous Bloody Bay Wall, which starts at just 18 feet below the surface and plunges vertically down to 1,200 ft. Bloody Bay Wall lets divers and snorkellers explore the unmatched beauty of Little Cayman's magnificent coral gardens, black coral trees, vibrantly colored tropical fish and swaying seaplumes. It is one of the best dive sites in the world and is highly rated by photographers and marine biologists as well. Shore diving and snorkeling from Jackson's Point is also spectacular, with coral heads rising from a 40 foot sandy bottom to within 10 feet of the surface. A 2 tank dive costs about $80-$85 US.

Bone Fishing & Deep Sea Fishing

Fishermen have good reason to come to Little Cayman, too. Deep sea fishing for tuna, dolphin fish, wahoo, marlin and barracuda is exciting for those who enjoy the open sea and a big fight. The bonefishing around Little Cayman is some of the best and they can even be caught right from the beach. Reef fishing can provide unbelievable thrills. Grouper, snapper, sharks, barracuda and Horse-eye jacks are great fighters and can often provide delicious fare for the table. The unique 15 acre Tarpon Pond, surrounded by mangroves, holds a large population of the challenging game fish from which the pond gets its name. The Tarpon weigh in between 15 and 30 lbs, and these feisty game-fish can always be counted on to put up a good fight.

Need to relax ?

Pack up your gear and head for Point of Sand, a tiny, constantly shifting cape of sand on the island's east end. If you've never had a deserted-isle picnic experience, make your way to tiny Owen Island, so close to Little Cayman's shore that the energetic can swim or snorkel across (but most people take a boat). Prince Charles dropped anchor here for an isolated rendezvous a few years ago, and upon your arrival you'll see why. Loll away the day in a natural lagoon with aquamarine waters and you'll be tempted to refuse your ride back.

Getting Here

There is air service several times a day to and from Grand Cayman with Cayman Airways. A short 35 minute flight from Grand Cayman sets you down on Little Cayman's grass landing strip. All of the hotels on the island offer an airport pick-up service. One of their staff will greet you at the single room terminal building, collect your bags, and transport you to your accommodations.

Where to stay

Little Cayman offers a number of small dive resorts, as well as Little Cayman Beach Resort, which is the premiere resort on the island. For families looking for a condo type vacation rental, The Club at Little Cayman offers luxury class beachfront condos and Conch Club offers deluxe condominium units directly on the same stretch of beach. The three Little Cayman resorts are sister properties and are located along the same stretch of beach, so guests at one resort can use the facilities at all three. All meals (if selected) are served buffet style at Little Cayman Beach Resort's restaurant, though condo guests can also prepare their own meals in their condo's fully equipped kitchen. Grocery supplies are somewhat limited on the island though, so even for condo guests, it is recommended that they eat dinner at the main resort's restaurant.
