Rum Point
Rum Point and Cayman Kai are popular residential areas on the queit north side of the island. The Retreat at Rum Point is adjacent to the popular Hyatt Rum Point bar and restaurant, which offers a great place for families or friends to relax on a protected white sand beach for the day. The sea is very shallow and protected right off the beach, so it is ideal for small children to play in the sea here. The north side of the point is more exposed to the sea and winds and offers some excellent beachcombing opportunities. Good snorkeling can be found right off the shore as well.
Rum Point is a 45 minute drive to George Town or 7 Mile Beach, so a car rental is recommended. They Hyatt Rum Point ferry used to operate a ferry from Rum Point to 7 Mile Beach, but that has been discontinued at this time.
East End
The East End of Grand Cayman offers a fantastic beach experience for those that would rather not be in the main tourist areas on 7 Mile Beach. Beautiful long stretch of white sand beach, great snorkeling, and a better value for your dollar. This area is slowly gaining more services every year. A new supermarket has recently opened across the street from the Reef Resort, so guests no longer have to venture far away to find a decent selection of groceries.
There are a few restaurants in this area, as well as watersports and an excellent dive operator, so though a car rental is recommended, you can still walk to a limited number of services. It's about a 45 minute drive from here to George Town or 7 Mile Beach.
