North 7 Mile Beach
The north 7 Mile Beach area has beautiful white sand beaches, great snorkeling and the condos in this area are a very good value compared to the prime central 7 Mile Beach area. Most of the condos here are older, but have all been fully renovated since 2005. The new luxury Renaissance condo resort opened here in May 2010 and gives guests a chance to try out a new luxury class condo resort in a quieter location.
It is a 5 - 10 minute drive to the shopping & restaurants in the central 7 Mile Beach area. There is one supermarket about a 5-10 minute walk north of Silver Sands as well as a couple of small shops, but not much else. A car rental is recommended if you stay in this area.
There are fine white powder sand beaches and no rocks from Christopher Columbus south to Heritage Club and in front of Silver Sands. The beach in front of Discovery Point Club & Aqua Bay Club is also mostly fine white sand, but there can be small rocky sections at both resorts at times. These rocky sections tend to come and go as the prevailing currents move sand around ... and it is easy enough to avoid the small sections of rocky beach as there is still plenty of fine white sand to lay on, play on, etc. at both resorts.
The snorkeling is excellent in the north 7 MIle Beach area, with the snorkeling getting better the further north you go. The Cemetery snorkel site is the best known snorkeling site on the island and is just a short stroll from Silver Sands. If you swim the 30 yards or so out to the reef, you will see a number of large colorful coral formations teeming with schools of fish. Sea turtles and stingrays are also often seen at this location. There is parking across the street as well, so even if you are staying further down 7 Mile Beach, you can drive to The Cemetery and enjoy the fantastic snorkeling.
